All women in Ireland are eligible for free ante-natal care with their GP. This includes a post-natal 2-week check for the new born and a six-week check for both mother and child.
Make an appointment to see us as soon as you know you are pregnant. We will refer you to a local maternity hospital where you will normally be seen before 20 weeks for blood tests and a scan. After that, visits will alternate between your GP and your maternity hospital. An approximate schedule of visits is shown below:
All babies should be seen by the GP at 2 weeks and both mother and baby attend the GP for a six week check.

All women in Ireland aged between 25 and 65 years are eligible for cervical screening free of charge. Cervical screening is one of the best ways to protect yourself from cervical cancer. Cervical screening checks the health of your cervix. It is not a test for cancer, it’s a test to help prevent cancer from developing.
At Prospect Medical we offer a range of blood tests. Before you have a blood test taken, it is important that you fully understand why the test is being done and what you can expect from the results. We ask patients to always phone us for the results of their blood tests.
Repeat prescriptions may be ordered by telephone or in writing. Please allow 24 hours notice for your prescription which will be emailed to your pharmacy. It is important to review medications that you are taking long-term. We may ask you to make an appointment to see your doctor to review long-term medications, to check that they are appropriate for you.
Prospect Medical Centre is a GP Training Practice of the Irish College of General Practitioners. This means that every year, we will have a GP Trainee working at the practice. The GP Trainee is a fully qualified doctor who is continuing his/her post-graduate training to qualify as a GP.
